Trauma Therapy

Trauma and EMDR therapy to help heal childhood memories, attachment wounds, and painful patterns so you can feel calmer, safer, and more connected as an adult.

Signs Developmental Trauma May Be Affecting You

Maybe you’ve never used the word trauma to describe what happened to you, but you know your childhood wasn’t great.

Your parents or primary caregivers often used harsh physical punishments or shamed you frequently.  Maybe you feel like your parents did the best they could to meet your material needs, but not your emotional needs.  You didn’t feel safe, loved, valued, or connected.

Maybe you’ve said you’re fine, but you’re starting to realize that as you become a parent you don’t want to repeat those patterns.

In the therapy world, we call this developmental trauma, which just means that something was broken in the attachment between you and your caregivers. The good news is that those attachments can be repaired, maybe not between you and the people who should have loved you better, but within yourself.

Do any of these sound familiar?

  • You’ve never felt good about yourself

  • You’re constantly second guessing yourself

  • You’re angry and you don’t know why

  • You get depressed and you don’t know why

  • You don’t feel safe in your relationship even though your partner is trying their best

  • You often find yourself in toxic relationships

  • You feel sad and confused

  • You feel defensive with your partner, coworkers, or friends

  • You feel like you don’t deserve good things

These are all totally normal feelings that may have helped you survive in the past, but are holding you back now.

Now that you’re an adult, you get to parent yourself the way you wish you'd been parented.  You can find a source of connection, safety, and love within yourself and discover relationships that are healthy and productive.

Are You Ready To . . .

  • Feel safe in your body

  • Feel like the world and other people are generally safe

  • Trust yourself

  • Wake up refreshed and energized instead of anxious

  • Feel more optimistic about life

  • Connect more effectively with your partner, friends, and family

  • Feel hopeful and inspired

Treatment Modalities

After learning more about your story and what you’re hoping to work on, Micah will create a tailored therapy plan using a combination of EMDR, ACT, and psychodynamic therapy. Learn more below.

What's EMDR?

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a research-supported therapy designed to help people process and heal from traumatic or painful life experiences.

When something overwhelming happens, the brain sometimes stores the memory in a way that keeps the emotions, body sensations, and beliefs from that moment “stuck.” This can show up later as anxiety, anger, shame, relationship struggles, or feeling constantly on edge.

EMDR helps the brain reprocess these experiences so they no longer carry the same emotional charge.

What is ACT?

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is a research-supported therapy designed to help people accept and work with difficult thoughts and feelings, rather than trying to control or eliminate them.

When stress, anxiety, or uncomfortable emotions show up, the natural response is often to avoid, suppress, or escape them. This can look like overworking, shutting down, or distracting yourself. Over time, these patterns can create more frustration, disconnection, and emotional distress.

ACT helps you relate differently to these experiences so they no longer control your actions or decisions. Instead of getting stuck in your thoughts or emotions, you learn how to stay present, grounded, and focused on what matters most.

What is Psychodynamic Therapy?

Psychodynamic therapy is a research-supported form of talk therapy designed to help you explore how your past experiences shape your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors today.

Many of the patterns that impact how you feel and relate to others are outside of your awareness. These can show up as anxiety, self-doubt, relationship challenges, or feeling stuck without fully understanding why.

Psychodynamic therapy helps bring these patterns into awareness so you can begin to understand them, process them, and shift them. As you gain insight into yourself, you’re able to respond to life with more clarity, confidence, and intention.
